We are looking for a Group Senior Tax Manager to join our Finance team for 6 months’ maternity leave cover. This role reports to the CFO and is the lead on all Group tax affairs, responsible for Corporate Income, Indirect and Employment Taxes covering UK, European, and US compliance, internal controls and advisory.

What you will do as our Group Senior Tax Manager? 

  • Oversee UK, Irish, Jersey, European and US Indirect tax compliance
  • Oversee European corporate tax compliance prepared by external advisors
  • Prepare Corporate income tax reporting and any tax payment required
  • Review and advise on Transfer pricing methodology and prepare additional documentation where necessary
  • Prepare R&D claim with the help of external advisors
  • Lead on tax planning to minimise overall tax exposure across the Group
  • Monitor and set up Tax registrations and compliance processes in new territories (e.g. due to sales in the US through own website).
  • Work with overseas marketplaces to ensure distance sales indirect tax compliance in line with the 1st July legislation changes in Europe and ongoing changes in the US.
  • Assist with tax payments forecasts
  • Improve processes, procedures and internal controls
  • Oversee the “Making Tax Digital” implementation
  • Monitor and report on regulatory and legislative regimes, identifying potential tax issues or consequences and advise management of effective solutions
  • Manage third party relationships with auditors, tax advisors and HMRC
  • Business partner with other departments to ensure tax function is included in key discussions which may have a tax implication
  • Provide support to HR on employment taxes including National Minimum Wage, PSA and HMRC queries
  • Line manage the VAT accountant and focus on their development in role

What you will need to succeed as our Group Senior Tax Manager?

  • Tax (CTA) or Accounting (ACA/ACCA) qualification
  • Previous experience of a broad spectrum of taxes gained in practice or in-house in a similar industry (including sale of goods)
  • International experience
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues in a clear and concise manner
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong numeracy, reconciliation and Excel skills
  • Be a great line manager

The following experience would also be desirable:

  • Retail experience, preferably including online
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing large volumes of data and report writing
