We are looking for an Ethical Trade Manager to continue to drive an established and long-term ethical trade strategy. S/he will be responsible for driving long-term strategic initiatives designed to improve working conditions in high risk regions, to be delivered against ambitious objectives. Day-to-day, s/he will monitor the overall ethical compliance of our supply chain and will intersect Ethical Trade and Sourcing, ensuring suppliers new and old understand and meet our requirements. The Ethical Trade Manager is responsible for significant stakeholder management, engaging internal business teams across all brands as well as civil society and customers, to ensure that ethical trade is our business as usual. S/he will have direct line management of an Ethical and Sourcing assistant in London and will be responsible for the deliverables of our Ethical Trade teams in our international sourcing regions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead team to analyse data and trends to understand areas of impact for ethical initiatives
  • Drive remediation in areas identified as high risk for workers by maximising new and existing partnerships
  • Deliver three-year ethical trade strategy, develop and manage team workplans and accountability
  • Report on impact of ethical trade initiatives regularly and systematically to internal and external stakeholders (including the Ethical Trade Initiative in annual report)
  • Manage the Ethical and Sourcing Assistant in execution of onboarding new suppliers and factories
  • Address areas of dispute raised during third party audits and liaise with buyers and suppliers on critical issues

What you will need to succeed as an Ethical Trade Manager?


  • Ability to research and present solutions for issues identified in supply chains
  • Stakeholder management skills: Internally including social media and customer service teams, all brand teams (buying, merchandise, technical and design), senior leadership and country offices. Externally including membership bodies, peer retailers, activist groups and NGOs.
  • Experience working with a global team
  • Ability to execute strategically, beyond a traditional approach to ethical trade and corporate social responsibility
  • Ability to analyse risk data and identify opportunities to improve
  • Experience measuring impact of social responsibility programmes
  • Strong communication, influencing and project management skills
  • Experience producing and presenting reports


  • Knowledge of Lighthouse and Sedex an advantage
  • Experience overseeing audit programmes
  • Line management experience
